Synopsis

Keratin, the main constituent of hair fibers, plays a crucial role in the strength, health and resistance of our hair. This key protein is held tightly together by various chemical bonds, including disulfide bridges.
Several external factors such as pollution, bleaching treatments and high temperatures due to frequent use of hair dryers can cause oxidative stress. This phenomenon leads to chemical alterations in keratin, compromising its function and consequently affecting hair health.
In this study we present Keradeep™, an optimized pine bark extract (PTBE), remarkable for its richness in polyphenols, obtained from Pinus pinaster species. Our advanced efficacy tests demonstrate our active’s strong ability to prevent carbonylation and oxidation of disulfide bonds in hair proteins, while conferring effective protection against damaging processes such as bleaching and heat. Provital used several state-of-the-art techniques, including Alba synchrotron light infrared spectroscopy and birefringence analysis, to accurately characterize the activity of the extract. The results indicate that PTBE is a potent antioxidant active that protects against molecular damage at both the cuticle and cortex levels in the hair fiber.
