Synopsis

The cosmetic market is constantly growing and developing throughout the world, with brands continuously looking for innovations. There is also a growing demand for natural and sustainable products. Thus, one of the trends is the replacement of synthetic ingredients by natural ones, since some of them may present high carbon footprints and toxic effects on the human health in the long term. With this challenge in mind, we want to value seaweed biomass for the production of innovative, science-based natural and functional ingredients to replace some of the current synthetic ones. Seaweeds are interesting marine organisms, rich in several bioactive compounds that contribute to different bioactivities, such as antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-pigmentation, anti-microbial, etc. Since they can adapt to different habitat conditions, they’re excellent candidates for the discovery of new compounds and bioactivities.

Ínclita Seaweed Solutions – ISS aims to produce low carbon seaweed based functional ingredients with high added value through innovative and sustainable processes. Along these processes, we are striving to develop and apply a biorefinery concept. This will help achieve our objectives to embrace and help the development and growth of the blue economy in order to contribute to sustainable development goals and marine ecosystems through a circular economy.
