Biography

Helena Melo Amaro is a microbiologist who graduated in 2008 from ESB-UCP with a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences from ICBAS (2017). In the last 20 years, she developed research work focused on algal biotechnology, envisioning the application of algae in 3 large fields: Health, Food/Feed, and Environment. She gave special focus on the optimization of critical stages of algal processes, biomass and metabolites production, extraction processes, assessment of extract’s bioactive potential, and biomass valorization. Her research involved the study of several algal organisms (microalgae, cyanobacteria, and seaweeds) in collaboration with several national and international research groups. Currently, she is the Lab manager of Ínclita Seaweed Solutions (ISS).
