InAlgaeTMAOX – a disruptive low carbon Antioxidant and Anti-pigmentation active cosmetic ingredient

Synopsis

Seaweeds represent a diverse and valuable source of compounds such as vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, etc., with antioxidants, moisturizing, anti-pigmentation and regenerative effects. The so-called “blue cosmetics” represent lines of products that use marine natural ingredients which are an increasing trend in major international cosmetic brands.

Ínclita Seaweed Solutions (ISS) develops and produces low carbon seaweed based functional ingredients through innovative and sustainable processes. Along these processes the biorefinery concept is applied, thus promoting the circular economy. Our mission is to foster the development and growth of the blue economy while contributing to the environmental sustainability of marine ecosystems.
ISS has developed InAlgaeTMAOX – a new organic anti-aging ingredient, with an antioxidant capacity 31% greater than green tea, and an anti-blemish activity 62% higher than kojic acid, based on a Fucus vesiculosus extract. Thus, InAlgaeTMAOX is an innovative plant-based ingredient alignment with COSMETORIUM 2023 foundations.

A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the entire manufacturing process of our seaweed extract was performed and its environmental impact was compared with the most used antioxidants in cosmetics. Considering an equivalent formulation, results showed that seaweed performed better than green tea extracts.
