Biography
Ana Sofia Oliveira holds a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Beira Interior and is a researcher at the Center for Health Sciences Research Centre at the University of Beira Interior (CICS-UBI). She is the author/co-author of 18 articles published in indexed scientific journals and has presented her research at various national and international scientific events. Her research has been focused on natural resources, specifically on the bioactivity of Portuguese thermal waters and aromatic and medicinal plants, and on the study of their bioactive potential to be applied as active ingredients in cosmetic formulations. Currently, she is a PhD student, for which she received funding from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), for the project “Portuguese Natural Resources as Modulators of Acne vulgaris Hallmarks (SFRH/BD/136192/2018), where she studies the anti-acne potential of aromatic and medicinal plants produced in Portugal, by evaluating their effect on key events of the

disease. She has also participated in three research projects and was a scholarship holder in the PROVERE Termas Centro project, where the bioactive potential of thermal waters from the central region of Portugal was studied, supporting some of the empirical knowledge of the use of Portuguese thermal waters for skin ailments.
