Synopsis

Liquid crystals – or Hydrosomes – were originally developed to respond to consumer preferences for natural ingredients in their personal care products.

They have been used in the personal care industry to deliver enhanced sensorialities and reduce the performance gap between “silicones/PEG-based cosmetics” and “natural cosmetics”.

Thanks to a new generation of OW and WO liquid crystals systems, formulators can create emulsions with a wide variety of benefits, such as anti-inflammatory action, controlled release of actives, improved elasticity as well as textures that span from light and evanescent to dimethicone-like.

SOCRI S.p.A. and Guido Bregaglio (Scientific Director) are at the forefront in this field and offer a full range of COSMOS approved and Naturality Index 1 systems that allow formulators to deliver highly stable emulsions with a virtually unlimited set of ingredients, easily and quickly.

Oils and emollients can be added virtually “on the fly” and properties such as skin-feel and appearance can be evaluated in real-time. This ability to interactively examine the conditions of the formulation can be a boon in the product development effort, saving a substantial amount of time and helping to achieve the perfect balance of effects.
